Rose City Classic Dog Show Jan 18-22

It's January so it must be time for the Rose City Classic Dog Show! The Rose City Classic Series of Dog Shows is one of the largest and most successful dog events in the United States. It spans 5 days (from Jan 18-22), starting with 20 specialty (single breed) shows and continuing with four days of all-breed dog shows, obedience (including Rally) and agility trials. Santa Paws Party at the Hotel Monaco This Weekend

Stop by the Hotel Monaco this Saturday or Sunday (12/10-11) from 2-4pm for a holiday party that welcomes both people and pets. Cats, dogs and other pets can pose with Santa to whisper their wishes and have a great holiday picture taken. Horse carriage rides available for the whole family. 5th Annual Pooch in the Pub

14th Annual Dog Show on the Beach

The Surfsand Resort is hosting its 14th Annual Dog Show on the Beach this Saturday, October 15th, on the resort's seaside backyard. Pooches from around the Northwest and beyond will compete for top honors in various categories including Oldest Looking Dog, Best Frisbee Catch, Cutest Puppy, Best Bark and Owner Look-alike. Join the Surfsand Resort for this light-hearted dog show as they raise money for the Clatsop County Animal Shelter. Portland Parks Off-Leash Advisory Group Meeting

For anyone who frequents one of the many Portland off-leash areas on a regulary basis, you might be interested to know that Portland Parks and Recreation holds regulary meetings to solicit public feedback. The meetings are open to all and designed to ensure that off-leash areas are healthy, safe, fun places for people and their dogs. Dogtoberfest

Pack up the pooches and head on down to the Lucky Lab this Saturday (9/24) for Portland's biggest dog wash! For a suggested donation of $10 per dog, DoveLewis volunteers will scrub up and dry off your dog. In addition to awesome live music, they'll also unveil the 2012 DoveLewis calendar! Inside the brew pub you'll find great beer and plenty of good food plus have an opportunity to visit with several pet related vendors at the street fair. Fences for Fido 2011 Fall Gala

The 2011 Fences for Fido Fall Gala will be happening this Saturday, Sept 10, to celebrate the gift of shelter and freedom before the winter months. The event will be packed with dog-loving, generous people who make sure they have full sponsorship for every chained dog on their waiting list for a new fence. This time they'll be bringing in some of the dogs they've unchained so we can all celebrate the changes Fences for Fido has brought to these dogs and their families (and neighborhoods, communities, cities...). Dogs for Dogs -- A Benefit for the Hillsboro Dog Association

On Sunday, Aug 28, the Hillsboro Dog Assocation will be having their Dog for Dogs event. Stop by the Whole Foods Market in Tualatin from 11-2 to join in the festivities, which include lots of food, a benefit dog wash, vendors, and a gift basket raffle. Tualatin Dog Park Grand Opening

This Saturday, Aug 13, Tualatin will be having the grand opening of its newest park. Bring your dog and join in the Grand Opening Festivities which takes place during the Crawfish Festival! Free collapsible water bowls will be given away at the Grand Opening and Zelda, the world-famous bulldog, and her owner and creator, Carol Gardner will help celebrate opening the park. The off-leash dog park is a place just over half an acre in size where dogs can run and frolic with other dogs in a contained area and their human companions can socialize and enjoy the beautiful park at the same time. There are separate small dog and large/active dog areas, so all dogs can have a comfortable place to play. The Tualatin Dog Park Grand Opening is scheduled during the Crawfish Festival so if you're in the park already, make a point of coming to the pooch party! Crawfish Festival admission is not required to attend the Grand Opening. While the Grand Opening is on August 13, the dog park is currently open for your use, as of Friday, July 15th! The Milwaukie Festival Daze 9K for K9 Walk

The Milwaukie Public Safety Committee in partnership with the Milwaukie Public Safety Foundation, will be hosting a K9 walk on Saturday, July 23, to raise money for their police K-9 dogs Jag and Shaka. Pick your time to walk, 3K, 6K, or the full 9K route for fun or sponsor someone else's participation. Bring your dog, your neighbors dog, or just walk with your neighbors. $25 pre-registration fee includes: short sleeve event shirt, water bottle, reflective dog leash with padded handle. Bark for Life - Beaverton

For those of you that missed their Gresham event, Bark for Life will be having another event in Beaverton on June 18. This American Cancer Society Bark For Life is a noncompetitive walk event for dogs and their owners to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer. There will be prizes, activities, music & food, demos/vendor booths and a silent auction. Pre-registration is $10/dog and on site registration is $20/dob and opens at 9:30am. Downtown Goes to the Dogs on Saturday

The 24th annual OHS Doggie Dash is happening this Saturday, May 14th. For those new to the dash, it's a fun run/walk open to everyone, with or without a dog. Dashers have their choice of a run/walk over the Hawthorne and Steel bridges, or a relaxing loop down Naito Parkway and back along Waterfront Park. Fences for Fido Seeking Input from Portland Dog Owners

Fences for Fido is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to improving the welfare and quality of life for dogs living outdoors. Through their volunteer efforts, they create safer and improved conditions for chained dogs, provide education to the public, and help build healthier communities through awareness and compassion. The Arthritis Walk - A Dog Friendly Walk to Fight Arthritis

The Arthritis Foundation is seeking walkers to participate in the Arthritis Walk on Sunday, May 15th at Marine Park in Vancouver. The Arthritis Walk is the Arthritis Foundation's signature event that takes place in communities nationwide to raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, one of the nation's leading causes of disability. It kicks off each May during National Arthritis Month. The event features both a three-mile and one-mile course, with activities for the entire family. Participants walk in honor of a friend or family member with arthritis, while those with arthritis wear blue hats to signify their action in taking control of their condition. Give Blood and Save at the Oregon Humane Society

The OHS "Pints for Pups" blood drive offers a 30% adoption discount to every person who gives blood at OHS on Saturday, March 19. The Red Cross bloodmobile will be at OHS from noon to 5 pm. All adoption fees will be reduced by 30% for blood donors. To schedule your blood donation time at OHS, call the Red Cross at (503) 528-5608 or visit http://www.givelife.org . Adoption fees at OHS can be as low as $55 for dogs and $35 for cats. Puppies, kittens and special breeds can be higher, which makes the 30% "Pints for Pups" discount all the more attractive. It's Rose City Classic Time!

It's that time of year again...time for the Rose City Classic! Starting Jan 19, pooches from all over will descend on Portland for 5 days worth of trials and competitions. Brighten Your Black Friday with a New Best Friend from OHS

Who wants to go to the mall during the busiest shopping day of the year? Instead, stop by the Oregon Humane Society (OHS) and get 50 percent off the adoption fee of any black or predominantly black adult pet on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving (Nov. 26-28). The annual OHS Black Friday sale begins at 10:00 am on Friday Nov. 26th and runs through Sunday, Nov. 28th. You'll find a huge selection of adult animals six months and older in all shapes and sizes. As of today, they have 27 dogs, 26 cats and two rabbits who qualify for the Black Friday 50% off adoption special. Every OHS adoption comes with a great list of "extras." Every animal is spayed or neutered; comes with an identification microchip, collar and tag; has received it's initial round of vaccinations; and includes a free month of health insurance and a free first visit to a veterinarian. Back by Popular Demand...First Aid for Your Best Friend

Would you know what to do if your dog was choking, or had a cut on her pad? Every dog owner should have a basic understanding of pet first aid and fortunately, Northwest Veterinary Specialists will be providing another FREE "First Aid for Your Best Friend" class at Urban Fauna on Nov 14 from 10am - 1pm. The class will include a CPR and bandaging demo/lab as well as an open forum for questions. They will discuss common emergencies including heat stroke, bloat, and brachycephalic airway syndrome as well as the 5 most frequent toxicities that they see in the ER. Howl-oween Costume Spectacular

Kimpton's Hotel Monaco Portland is hosting a Halloween costume contest for dogs -- the Howl-oween Costume Spectacular -- on Thursday, October 21st to benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind. Categories will include most creative, funniest, best parent dog combo and most Portland-esque. Volunteers and attendees are encouraged to dress up as things that scare dogs (i.e. mail man, vacuum, etc.). A winner from each category will be chosen to receive a one-night stay at the hotel and gift basket from LexiDog Boutique. Appetizers and desserts from Red Star Tavern & Roast House will be provided, along with beer, wine and a signature cocktail for donation, of which all proceeds go to Guide Dogs for the Blind.
